Welcome to Midwise.

With over four decades of heartfelt dedication to women's health I bring experience and a personalised touch to my midwifery care. The relationships I build are based on respect, nurture and compassion.

Since 1984 I've worked as a Registered Midwife and Nurse, and in 2023, I enhanced my practice with an AHPRA Endorsement driven by my desire to offer private midwifery continuity of care. This care is tailored to mothers and their babies, and provided in the comfort of their own homes - from pregnancy and birth through to postnatal care.

My goal is to offer continuity of care through the entire pregnancy, birth and postnatal period (up to 6 weeks) for women planning for a home birth. I am here to support you every step of the way by ensuring a holistic and empowering journey into parenthood - the Midwise way.

If you’ve ever wondered what the second Midwife attending a Homebirth does ? … arrives after the primary midwife calls … Respects the birth space invited into , blends into & ‘reads ‘ the room , acknowledges the support team present , take photos if asked , pat the dog , sit on hands , read a book to a toddler , play in the garden , warm up some towels , be available to the primary midwife as invited .. check oxygen set up , familiarise with medications in the fridge , document events , BIrth !! support if needed for care , arrange transfer if becomes appropriate, tidy up , empty the birth pool , put the kettle on , make the toast , settle the new family in to rest , sleep & be amazed & in awe at the strength of a birthing woman bringing their baby Earthside 🙏 … sit on hands 💖

#Continuity of care with a Private Practice Midwife can look like this… Antenatal & Breastfeeding Education , Antenatal appointments, supported Labour care all at home , along with support in hospital all for a planned Hospital Birth followed by early discharge & ongoing Postnatal care at home

World Breastfeeding Week ( every day) My first memory of breastfeeding was my youngest sibling being weaned for “ breastmilk jaundice “ 😢 … the 60s 🤦‍♀️
I recall babysitting around the age of 14 in the early ‘ 70s!. The woman was a Nursing Mothers Association Breastfeeding Counsellor & the information booklets for members were in the house .. public awareness of the benefits of breastmilk was growing due to community support & local group get togethers . I was fortunate in my midwifery training .. early 80s to have positive role models to further reinforce the benefits of breastmilk & feeding . My babies x 3 were all born in the 90’s , it was my informed decision to breastfeed & I absolutely loved the bonding with each baby & the benefits for both them & myself . It was a team effort with my partner supporting us bringing them into the hospital on late shifts ( pumps weren’t really widely used … think Kaneson cylinder pump. As an extra bonus my friendship group were all having babies & we rode the highs & lows of early parenting . I reignited my NMAA & then ABA membership as a Community Educator creating awareness to high school students , normalizing breastfeeding, the benefits of breastfeeding & how support is so crucial for acceptance & success. I trained to become a Breastfeeding Counsellor in my local community, always impressed with ABAs commitment to research, evidence based facts , advocating for families & always honouring & supporting choice with empathy & kindness . As a midwife offering continuity of care discussions about how each person plans to feed comes from offering education & resources to make informed & supported choices. Correct Position & Attachment is obviously emphasised here with my daughter & TEDDY … 💖 .. never too young to educate future generations , share knowledge & offer support to those in the milky haze of hormones & challenges that they’re doing a brilliant job 🙏
